In the lead-up to International Women’s Day on Saturday, we’re highlighting the incredible women who make Bristol Harlequins the club it is today. Next up in our series is Jess Noble, our brilliant Bar Manager, who plays a key role in ensuring the clubhouse is a welcoming space for everyone.

Falling into the Role & Building a Community

Jess didn’t set out to become Bar Manager at Quins, but after helping out in the previous season, she found herself stepping up—and hasn’t looked back since.

"I kind of fell into the role after helping the bar manager out the previous season (if you know, you know!). I was happy to continue, and now I’ve been doing it for the last two seasons, doing my part to help the club."

While running the bar can feel like a full-time job, Jess is quick to acknowledge the amazing team of volunteers who step in to help—whether it’s Saturdays, Sundays, or club events.

"We are so lucky to have so many willing volunteers who also give up their own time to help out in the bar. I’m sure they get fed up with my pleas for help in the bar group chat!"

A Clubhouse That Feels Like Home

For Jess, the best part of the role isn’t just pouring pints—it’s the people.

"Whilst it can be stressful and so busy at times, it’s worth it. You get to have a chat, meet everyone, have a bit of banter, and just have a good time with your mates, whether it’s the seniors or minis/juniors. We pride ourselves on being good hosts, and we hope this is apparent to our members, supporters, and the travelling teams."

That sense of hospitality is at the heart of Bristol Harlequins, and Jess takes pride in making sure everyone feels welcome at the club.

"The clubhouse is the hub of Quins, and we want EVERYONE to feel welcome. We have minis, juniors, seniors, so many members and their families, plus all the away teams and supporters that come to our club. We want people to enjoy their time at Quins."

Women at the Heart of Quins

Jess may not have thought about her role in terms of representation, but she recognises the importance of women being at the forefront of grassroots rugby.

"I’ve never really thought of it like that, but it is important that we have women represented. I feel respected and lucky to be part of this club. We are also so fortunate at Quins to have an amazing group of women who, let’s face it, help to run the show."

From rugby leads and safeguarding officers to committee members, coaches, and kitchen volunteers, the women of Quins play a vital role in making the club what it is today. And it’s not just the volunteers—mums, carers, sisters, nans, and partners all play their part too.

"Let’s not forget the wives, girlfriends, mums, carers, nans, aunties, and sisters who you can find on the sideline cheering on all the teams in all weathers!"

Jess has also been one of the key driving forces behind Quins’ first-ever Ladies Day, an event dedicated to celebrating the women of the club.

"It was amazing to see Ladies Day come to life—it was something we’d spoken about for a while, and to finally make it happen was just brilliant. The atmosphere, the support, the way everyone came together to celebrate the women who make Quins what it is—it was such a special day. And it was a huge success!"

Memorable Moments & Club Spirit

Running the bar has its challenges, but for Jess, the highlights make it all worthwhile.

"The old boys’ dinner is always a bit of fun and an eye-opener—but we’ll leave that there! But when you see events we’ve planned from scratch being so well received and everyone having a good time, those are the memorable ones."

She’s quick to give credit to her wing woman, Kelly Britt, for helping organise events that bring the club together.

"I couldn’t run or organise all of these events without her. Up the Quins!! 💙🖤🤍"
