Bristol Harlequins travelled to Yatton for a hard-fought contest that saw the visitors deliver a strong first-half performance before succumbing to a second-half comeback from the home side.
Quins’ day began with a setback after just 10 minutes when David Priddy was sent to the sin bin. Reduced to 14 men, the visitors showed grit in defence to keep Yatton at bay during his absence. Upon returning to the field, Priddy made an immediate impact, putting in a deft kick over the top for Billy McGowan, who collected beautifully and ran in under the posts. The conversion was slotted, giving Quins a 0–7 lead. Shortly after, Quins suffered another blow as Dylan Pearce was forced off with an injury, replaced by Paul Todd. The disruption unsettled the team, and moments later, they were reduced to 14 men again, with McGowan sent to the bin for a high tackle. The visitors held a 0-7 lead going into halftime, showcasing excellent teamwork and determination.
The second half, however, saw a dramatic shift in momentum. Yatton came out with renewed energy, using their home advantage and piling on the pressure. Quins struggled to maintain the defensive cohesion they displayed in the first 40 minutes, and Yatton capitalised on every opportunity. A series of well-executed tries and consistent goal-kicking saw the home side surge into a commanding lead.
Despite Quins' best efforts to regain control, Yatton’s relentless attacking play and dominance at the breakdown proved too much. The visitors showed flashes of brilliance but were unable to add to their tally as Yatton secured a 31-7 victory.
While the result didn’t go Quins' way, there were positives to take from their first-half performance and the determination shown throughout the match. The team will regroup and look to bounce back stronger in their next fixture.
